How To Get Your Non-Resident (Out of State) Massachusetts Gun License (MA LTC) and Carry In Up To 39 Other States
Step 1: Make Sure You Qualify
- You must be 21 years or older (LTC) or 15+ (for FID card)
- You must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
- Never been convicted of a felony
- No ACTIVE restraining orders.
- Never dishonorably discharged from the armed forces
- Never deemed mentally insane by a court of law.
- Not convicted for a DUI after 1994 in Massachusetts.
Step 2: Take our Firearms Safety Course
The state of Massachusetts requires all applicants to complete a State Police Certified Basic Firearms Safety Course in order to qualify for the LTC.
You will be required to submit a certificate (like the one below) of your completed course along with your application for a license.
After completing the course you will receive a certificate of completion. This is required to apply for your LTC
While taking the course, you’ll receive instruction in
- Gun components
- Proper gun storage
- Properly transporting and traveling with guns
- Gun operation
- The basics of shooting firearms, including live firing
- Ammunition
- Important marksmanship basics
- Firearm cleaning and maintenance
- Gun laws in the states you’d like to carry in
Important
Many towns and states require shooting a real firearm as a training requirement. We won't certify our students without live fire training. You wouldn't get your driver's license without getting behind the wheel of a car. Don't trust courses that will certify you without training hands on.
